Who We Support

Followers of Christ Prison Ministry

Through our Prison Ministry, we reach out to help prisoners in the Nebraska State Penitentiary system to know the transformational love of Jesus Christ. The Synod’s prison ministry has touched countless lives and helped provide much needed spiritual support to those who have participated, particularly those who transition back from prison life to society at large.

FEAST

FEAST is a prison ministry program to reintegrate inmates into society through a Christian fellowship with a goal to help them become selfsufficient through a responsible Christian example.

FEAST stands for “Friends Eating And Serving, Singing, Studying, Together.” Inmates at the Community Correctional Center of Lincoln (CCCL) are picked up by volunteer members of Our Saviour’s and brought to the church for worship, a meal, Bible study, singing, and serving.

Bridges to Hope

Bridges to Hope seeks to accompany ex-offenders while they are moving out of the correctional institutions and into the community. Bridges to Hope provides access to clothing and furniture necessary for setting up an independent household after incarceration. Job readiness, mentoring and coaching are an important part of the re-entry process and also a part of our programming.

Muriel’s Fund

Prison Ministry was supported by the work of Muriel Christenson. She went back to work after retirement and donated her salary to help prisoners when they leave prison. Wtih her money we started the Bridge, which is now called Bridges to Hope.

In her memory, Pastor Bud started an endowment fund to continue the work she loved. The earnings from this fund will continue to support Prison Ministry for years to come. Donations can be sent to Nebraska Synod, ELCA, and marked Muriel’s Fund.

“Together, we live love with the grace and courage of Jesus, bringing new life and hope to the incarcerated and to those who are reentering society.”

Join us to celebrate prison ministry and to raise support for prisoners and ex-offenders as we help them transition to a new life.
